You can make a difference in the local community by volunteering with CHEER.
We are currently recruiting volunteers in the following areas:
Befrienders
One of the important services that CHEER offers to our clients is the opportunity to have a regular home visit from a volunteer. A commitment of one hour a week to visit an elderly person in their home for a cup of tea and a chat can put an end to isolation and loneliness. Many of our volunteers build up a friendship that sees both parties benefiting from the experience.Skills/Qualifications
You must have the ability to empathise with older people together with good listening skills.
If you think you might be interested this role please contact the manager, Harry Livesey, for an initial without commitment discussion. Telephone 01372 474555 or e-mail manager@cheer-elmbridge.org.uk.

We
are looking for a volunteer who will enjoy working with the elderly,
have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work on
their own initiative. You will also need to have good organisational
skills and the ability to transfer information given by your client onto
the appropriate place on the form. This is a challenging role that
requires patience and the ability to ensure that clients feel at ease to
speak about the difficulties they are encountering. You will need to be
able to spare half a day per client - but this can be at intervals to
suit yourself.
