Tea Parties & Events

Helped by generous financial support from Walsingham Care, we provide a full programme of social events for our friends in the community.

Lunches at local park cafes and garden centres, ‘Pie and Pint’ pub lunches for older men, and tea parties (often in conjunction with sheltered housing providers and local community organisations such as churches) are ever popular.  They provide a welcome and much-needed opportunity for older people to get out and socialise.  Help is provided with transport where needed, especially for those with mobility problems.

Jane was concerned that her husband was not getting out at all as his confidence was poor following a period of poor health. Jane brought him to an event and met a friend she had not seen for many years. That friendship has widened both their circles of friendship and they now regularly attend CHEER events.

John was referred to CHEER and became a regular at our Pie and Pint events. He was collected by a volunteer each time and enjoyed being in male company that the event provided.  John also welcomed the idea of a regular volunteer visit.
