We were delighted by a wonderful turnout of guests including the Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Mary Sheldon and her Consort, John Sheldon, CHEER trustees, volunteers, and clients for a lunch in the Chessington Safari Hotel. The setting was awe-inspiring, with a view from the dining room out over the savannah where zebra, ostriches, antelope and giraffe were grazing.
Guests had a two-course lunch followed by a fantastic performance from Year 2 pupils at Shrewsbury House Pre-Prep School, which included a rousing sing-a-long of Lets go Fly a Kite from Mary Poppins. And the fun didn’t stop there! It was good to see how many of our guests, despite a few mobility issues, were able to take the short walk up to the zoo to see some of the animals in close quarters.
It was a lovely way to celebrate the arrival of 2020, especially as many of the guests hadn’t been out of their houses since Christmas Day.
